Welcome to I Am Lakeland. These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of iamlakeland.com and any related pages or services that expressly link to these Terms (collectively, the “Site”).
The Site is operated by Donald P. Burns, doing business as I Am Lakeland (“we,” “us,” or “our”).
By using the Site, you agree to these Terms to the extent permitted by applicable law. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Site.
1. About I Am Lakeland
I Am Lakeland provides community information, local event listings, business information, and related content about Lakeland, Florida, and surrounding communities. Our services may also include newsletters, podcasts, job listings, classifieds, sponsorships, and promotional content.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, we are an independent community resource and are not affiliated with or endorsed by the City of Lakeland or another government agency.
2. Event and Listing Information
Information on the Site may come from event organizers, businesses, community members, public sources, or third-party websites.
We make reasonable efforts to provide useful information, but we do not guarantee that listings are accurate, complete, current, or available. Event dates, times, locations, admission prices, age restrictions, accessibility arrangements, and other details may change without notice.
Please confirm details directly with the organizer, venue, or business before attending an event, traveling, purchasing tickets, or relying on a listing.
We may edit, decline, remove, or expire listings at our discretion, subject to applicable law. Past events may be removed automatically. The Site is not an archive, and we do not promise to preserve submitted content.
3. Third-Party Events, Businesses, and Transactions
Unless a listing expressly states otherwise, I Am Lakeland does not organize, manage, supervise, or control the events, businesses, products, or services listed on the Site.
A listing, link, or mention does not constitute an endorsement, certification, background check, or guarantee.
Purchases, registrations, employment arrangements, donations, and other transactions you make with third parties are between you and those parties. Their terms and policies govern matters such as payment, cancellation, refunds, fulfillment, and participation.
If you attend an event or meet someone through a listing, use reasonable judgment and follow applicable rules and safety instructions.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Site to:
- Violate any applicable law or another person’s rights.
- Submit false, deceptive, fraudulent, defamatory, or unlawfully discriminatory content.
- Harass, threaten, impersonate, or exploit another person.
- Publish private information without authorization.
- Submit content you do not have permission to use.
- Distribute malware, spam, or unsolicited commercial messages.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site, accounts, or systems.
- Interfere with the Site’s operation or bypass security or access restrictions.
- Harvest contact information or use automated tools in a way that disrupts the Site or violates applicable law.
5. User Submissions
If you submit an event, business listing, photograph, flyer, job posting, classified advertisement, comment, or other material, you represent that:
- The information is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
- You have the rights and permissions necessary to submit it.
- You are authorized to act for any organization you represent.
- Your submission complies with applicable law and these Terms.
You retain ownership of your original content. By submitting it, you grant us a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, reproduce, format, edit, display, and distribute that content as reasonably needed to operate and promote the Site and the submitted listing, including through our newsletters and social media channels.
You may request removal of your submission by contacting us. Removal does not recall previously distributed emails or printed materials, and limited copies may remain in backups or records where reasonably necessary or legally required.
We are not obligated to publish a submission or retain it for any particular period.
6. Advertising and Sponsorships
The Site may display advertisements, sponsored listings, promotional placements, or affiliate links. Paid relationships will be disclosed where required by law.
Advertising or sponsorship does not guarantee attendance, sales, leads, search placement, or any other result.
If you purchase a service directly from us, the price, scope, payment terms, and any cancellation or refund policy will be disclosed in the applicable order or agreement. That agreement controls if it conflicts with these general Terms.
7. Email and Other Communications
If you subscribe to our emails, you may receive community updates, event information, and other communications described when you subscribe.
You may unsubscribe from marketing emails using the instructions provided in those messages. Necessary transactional messages may still be sent when applicable.
Using the Site alone does not constitute consent to receive marketing text messages. Any text-message subscription requires the applicable separate disclosures and consent.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted or timely delivery of email or other communications.
8. Intellectual Property
Our original text, graphics, branding, designs, and other Site materials are owned by us or used with permission and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
You may access the Site for personal, noncommercial use and share links to our pages. Other uses of our protected materials require permission unless otherwise allowed by law.
Third-party names, logos, photographs, and trademarks belong to their respective owners. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of those materials.

Do not include sensitive personal information in public submissions.

This includes losses related to inaccurate listings, canceled events, third-party transactions, or interruptions to the Site.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for fraud, willful misconduct, gross negligence, or any other liability that applicable law does not allow us to limit.
13. Restricting Access and Removing Content
We may restrict or suspend access to the Site or remove content when reasonably necessary to address violations of these Terms, protect users, maintain security, comply with law, or discontinue a service.
Where applicable, separate paid-service agreements and legally required refund rights remain in effect.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Updated Terms will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
When required by law, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent to material changes. Changes will not apply retroactively to disputes that arose before the changes took effect.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
Subject to any mandatory rights under applicable law, disputes relating to these Terms or the Site will be brought in the appropriate state or federal courts serving Polk County, Florida.
16. General Provisions
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in effect.
Our failure to enforce a provision does not waive our right to enforce it later.
These Terms, together with any applicable separate agreements, govern your use of the Site.
